Spring 2006
Winter has quickly past and spring will bring flowers and building projects to Snow Hill. Here is what’s taking place around Snow Hill…
1. The Planning Board approved a revised site plan for Mr. Bert Dixon showing a proposed redesign of a Group Residential Development consisting of 24 town homes planned for the South side of the 700 block of SE Third Street. Barrow and Barrow, PA of Snow Hill prepared the revised layout for the 2.94-acre tract to include a public street. The Board of Adjustment had previously issued a special use permit for the town homes.
2. Mr. Bobby Taylor is completing the landscaping and other final touches to five new clay tennis courts at Green Ridge Racquet and Swim Club. The expansion at 609 Kingold Boulevard is the latest phase of the popular tennis center. The Snow Hill Planning Board, under a standing special use permit, approved the additional tennis courts.
3. Following demolition of the former Snow Hill Plumbing & Heating Building, site grading and preparations are underway for the proposed DIVITA, a medical dialysis center located on a 1.22-acre tract at 1025 Kingold Boulevard. The developer is Hillco Support Services and Neil Realty Company.
4. The North Carolina Department of Transportation is progressing with its addition of a right turn lane in front of the McDonalds and BoJangles restaurants. Preparations include relocating some utilities. Drivers need to use caution approaching the orange cones and “work zone signs’ at this busy intersection of Kingold Boulevard and Southeast Second Street.
5. The Board of Adjustment is scheduled March 15, 2006 to consider an application for a special use permit to allow the placement of a 10’X30’ 2-sided paneled and five pole billboard to be built off the West Side of US 13 bypass. Danny Summers, DBA Alt Outdoor Advertising, 219 Millbrook Village Dr., Goldsboro, NC is the applicant. The landowner is Joe H. Beaman, 127 Beaman Old Creek Road. The site is approximately 400 feet Southwest of Harrison Tile Company. The site is a sample of one that meets the minimum 1000’ separation requirement from another billboard required for new site locations in business zones outside of town but within the town’s planning and zoning jurisdiction.
6. The town’s zoning regulations do not permit additional outdoor advertising structures or “billboards’ in the town limits. Commercially zoned highway sections within the extraterritorial planning area may qualify for additional billboards with issuance of a special use permit by the Board of Adjustment.
7. The Unveiling Glory in Worship Ministry, Incorporated Church at 305 Hull Road is planning a new church building. Until the new church is constructed the congregation has applied for a special use permit amendment and a setback variance for use of a 12’ X 50’ modular classroom building. The classrooms are proposed to be located next to the Southside of the current church building.
8. Doris Barrett has received a permit to operate a car detailing service at the former Snow Hill Supply Company on Southeast Second Street. In addition to car cleaning, the three-acre site is being cleaned and buildings painted. This is the first of several business and improvement ideas Ms. Barrett is exploring on the leased site.
9. On March 17, 2006 members of the Tree Board will attend the 2006 Arbor Day Celebration in Raleigh hosted by the North Carolina Forestry Council and North Carolina Division of Forestry in recognition of the State’s Tree City USA communities. Snow Hill is receiving a three-year Growth Award in recognition of its increased investment in the town’s urban forestry program.
