Edwards continues college assistance program
(Snow Hill, North Carolina)—At a senior awards ceremony, former United States senator of North Carolina and vice presidential candidate John Edwards announced the award of over $300K to the graduating class of 2006 at Greene Central High School and his commitment to assist the class of 2007 with tuition assistance.
“We’re very proud to be able to help you go to college,” said Edwards to the graduating seniors. Participating in the College Summit program, students at Greene Central High School were assisted with navigating the college application process. With Edwards’ assistance, many graduating seniors will have there first year of college paid for as a part of his College for Everyone foundation.
“I believe that this is critical to the future development of our community. Senator Edwards is to be commended for his genorosity and desire to tackle poverty,” said Snow Hill Mayor Don Davis.
According to school officials, early reports indicate a significant increase in the number of students applying for college.
