Herbicide prohibited in SH Cemetery
(Snow Hill, North Carolina)—The Snow Hill Board of Commissioners amended Section 93.03 of the Groundskeeping Regulation prohibiting the use of herbicide in the Snow Hill Cemetery.
“We have worked hard to enhance the Snow Hill Cemetery. Several residents have voiced concerns in regards to the use of Roundup in the cemetery. I believe that this is an important amendment because it allows us the ability to regulate the use of herbicide in the cemetery. Our failure to do so could be detrimental to the appearance of the cemetery,” said Snow Hill Mayor Don Davis.
The Snow Hill Board of Commissioners added to the existing Town cemetery regulation the following: “(G) No lot owner shall apply any herbicides on the ground of any pathway, lot or single grave.” Under the Town’s ordinance, violations of this ordinance are a Class 3 misdemeanor and violators are subject to a fine not to exceed $500.
Residents with concerns regarding the cemetery grounds may contact the Cemetery Superintendent Mike Sutton at (252) 747-3414 or visit the Snow Hill Town Hall.
